Blake Anderson |
Daiya grew up in the wine capital of Canada, Oliver B.C. and as a young child was taught how to tend and farm her own garden by her mother. Daiya’s father was also heavily involved in farming orchards along the Black Sage Bench which, present day, plays host to a multitude of vineyards. As a young girl, Daiya remembers being in awe of the bounty of a harvest, where you could take care of a plant and how that plant would give back to you a sweet reward for all that hard work.
Daiya became interested in wine after being introduced to it in the hospitality industry in which she worked for almost 20 years in corporate leadership roles. Daiya embraced the cyclical nature of harvest. Every season is different, every vintage is different and that continuous learning process of working with and not against whatever the new season brings appeals to her greatly. Daiya has her level three ISG Sommelier Accreditation, has trained in winemaking from WSU and is the Winemaker for Origin Wines where her passion for cooking and putting flavours together integrates with the unique, fruit-forward wines she creates. |
Before Origin Wines officially opened its doors, Blake managed a 100+ person team at a prominent Visual Effects Company in Vancouver and has brought that creativity to the winemaking as well as the different design elements of Origin Wines.
Blake has over 15 years of vineyard experience in the Okanagan having been involved in the planning, planting and management of three vineyards. Beginning with a 10 acre family vineyard planted from scratch, he learned the core skills needed to successfully operate equipment and cultivate the land. From there, moving on to learn from highly successful wineries, including Poplar Grove’s original owners, he gained even more refined knowledge needed to start his own vineyard. Blake has been involved with several large scale vineyard projects around the valley and managed the planting of the vineyard that you see onsite at Origin as well as their other vineyards (Kaleden) and along the Naramata Bench on Gammon Road where we will are growing more pinot noir! If you see Blake around the winery, give a wave because he will likely be on the tractor or out in the vineyard, |
Pat & Aaron AndersonBlake’s Parents Pat And Aaron helped Blake and Daiya found Origin wines and have put in countless hours of farming and vineyard work to fund the dream. They live in the OKANAGAN in the summer and spend their winters travelling to warmer parts of the world. Nowadays Pat can be found in the vineyard or hiking local hills and Aaron will be found in the gardens or the vineyard on a daily basis.
Ed and Vickie Huffman Daiya’s parents Ed & Vickie have supported the winery dream since Daiya and Blake started talking about it. Ed’s vast farming knowledge and connections and Vickie’s enduring and shameless support of the tasting room, not to mention so many hours of babysitting have helped to encourage the project. |
